The exhibition Towards Meta Garden brings about an art garden with ‘virtual, abstract’ technology by extracting the notion of ‘meta’ from ‘metaverse’ and grafting it onto contemporary art. The 11 participating artists bring a future garden to the exhibition space through a visualization of aesthetic imagination by embracing Artificial Intelligence and big data.

Towards Meta Garden
We are now going through the 4th Industrial Revolution that heralds highly innovative changes in the way we live and work through a fusion of cutting-edge information and communications technology in the sectors of society and economy. The ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic has put our lives into the non-face-to-face era under these circumstances. The impact of this pandemic gives rise to the term ‘metaverse’ that newly and strongly stands for the Internet technology in lieu of cyberspace, asking us to be in an online contact-free reality.
Human emotions are diversely influenced by science and technology advancing by leaps and bounds. With this, humans have consistently researched and developed media tools with which people around the world are able to connect and communicate rapidly. These media tools help give birth to new convergence art as applied to contemporary art.
Visitors to the exhibition come to have firsthand experiences with a virtually created nature with light and sound in a digital cave for rest, passing through the cyborg tree of sound using a variety of engineering technologies, led by a new passage. They arrive at a digital garden that is both physical and non-physical, going through plants’ gestures that are not usually sensed or expressed with data, fine dust in the world we reside, and the South Pacific Ocean far away from them. They also become part of an artwork, staying in a virtual world in reality or reality in a virtual world. They are also able to come across the elemental principle of nature, a question vis-à-vis existence, and some alternative proposals for the new ecosystem of self-moving futuristic plants, envisaging historical narratives on the sounds of water and wind that retain the past, present, and future. As their final journey to the Meta Garden the spectators come back to reality, gaining psychological healing and solace.
Human activities in the Metaverse to be shared by all will not disappear in vain, but closely associated with the realistic world’s material conditions, human relations, and social influences. As a result, the imaginary or virtual will become the real. It is our hope that you may realize the age of the Metaverse to emerge soon in this virtual garden and experience the sensation of new social and physical communication in contact-free relations.
