Education Program

In October 2007, Gwangju Museum of Art opened the Children’s Cultural Center, which allowed the museum to expand its educational program for children and not being strictly confined to the existing program that mainly catered adults and which was more practice-based. Offered in conjunction with Gwangju YMCA, this program consists of around 30 classes covering subjects ranging from fine arts to liberal arts, hobbies, and languages. The program targets preschoolers, children, teenagers, and adults. The museum is also operating a weekend art experience program for families.

The facilities that are used for the education program include 4 rooms for children’s creation class (200㎡), 2 classrooms (176㎡) for the practice-based lectures for adults, and a multi-purpose large classroom with 200 seats (497㎡). Furthermore, the ceramic room has been relocated to the palgakjung (octagonal pavilion) and is equipped with an electric spinning wheel and a pug mill. These facilities provide a very pleasant work environment for the students.
