In December of 2019, the Gwangju Museum of Art became the first Korean public museum to open a residency in Beijing, China. The Beijing Residency was established in order to promote Gwangju art and local artists, and support their creative endeavors in striving to enter the global art stage. The Beijing Residency was initially in the Dashanzi Huantie Arts Zone, near the 298 Art District, until 2016, before relocating to the Songzhunag Arts Zone, Beijing’s most active art area, in order to expand through communication with different artists.
